Keeping Up With the Kardashians (KUWTK), a reality TV show that airs on E!, is coming to an unexpected end with its 20th season, 14 years after airing. The last season will be airing in early 2021. KUWTK is focused on the lives of the Kardashian and Jenner families, popularized due to its showcasing of raw and spontaneous footage of their daily lives.

According to E!, the show averages about 1 million viewers between the ages of 18 and 49 each episode, with its most watched episode – Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kris Humphries – garnering more than 10.5 million viewers. 

The Kardashian/Jenner siblings all grew their individual businesses with help from the show. Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner continuously showed behind the scenes shots, such as campaigns or company deals to their viewers, and frequently updated viewers on the status of their businesses. Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics, Skims by Kim Kardashian, Poosh by Kourtney Kardashian and Good American by Khloe Kardashian are some of the successful businesses all owned by the sisters. In addition, Kris Jenner manages most of her daughters’ businesses or business transactions. She gets a 10 percent cut from every deal they make and has been their manager for over a decade according to Daily Mail. 

According to sources who spoke to Entertainment Tonight, KUWTK is ending because the family needs to focus on their own independent lives and families. They find it challenging to come together and be able to film. Unsatisfied with this reasoning, fans have continued to speculate about the real cause to the end of the show. Conflicts between the family members have allegedly caused a further divide. Last season, Kourtney and Kim got into a physical altercation when Kim questioned Kourtney’s commitment to work and filming. Kourtney Kardashian left the show soon before the last season was announced. 

“I have been filming the show non-stop for 14 years,” Kourtney Kardashian said. “I was feeling unfulfilled and it became a toxic environment for me to continue to have it occupy as much of my life as it was.”

As of recently, Kylie and Kendall Jenner barely appear on the show according to Khloe Kardashian. Additionally, Kim Kardashian stated that she would not be sharing any details regarding her personal life anymore because she’s been “oversharing.” 

“As you get older and you have kids, and you realize you do want to value some privacy,” Kim Kardashian said. “We’ll forever cherish the wonderful memories and countless people we’ve met along the way.” 

They not only built a huge fanbase but also grew their family on camera, celebrated birthdays and even documented births. It became a part of their regular day to day which provided endless drama that became a big part of the show.
