The Biomedical exploration club, sponsored by Lolithia Otero, hosted a stitching workshop on January 25, 2017. Using scissors, bananas, tweezers and vicryl donated by Aventura Hospital, President Delanie Ludmir and the other club members stitched up bananas that represented human flesh.
After learning how to stitch wounds in the summer, Ludmir proposed the idea of a stitching workshop to Otero. “Most members of the club want to be in the medical field, so it is important that they learn to do this,” said vice president, Eliza Morton.
Club members were taught to do six different types of sutures: Instrumental tie, simple running suture, figure-8 structure, horizontal mattress suture and simple running locking structure.
The Biomedical exploration club has already planned their next suture workshop for February 1st.
