This school year, the College Assistance Program (CAP) club has launched its first scholarship, giving students a chance to earn financial aid for college with their academic accomplishments.
A flyer with the scholarship information was put around the school, explaining what the requirements were and included the QR code to apply for it. The deadline was March 15 and the winner will be announced during the Senior Awards Ceremony in May.
“A lot of the funding that we get [for the scholarship] comes from the activities the club does, for example, the Valentine’s Day baskets in February,” CAP club secretary, senior Hager Bahar said. “We decided that while making money and having fun, we should also give back, so we created the scholarship.”
The scholarship, which was only available for seniors, required students to have at least a 3.0 GPA and one recommendation letter.
“In order to create it, we looked at other scholarship applications,” CAP club sponsor and College Advisor Jan Spivak said. “We identified the questions from there, the requirements for the scholarship that we wanted to have, and also questions that would give us information to help us make a decision on who the winner is going to be.”
Not all students were eligible for this scholarship, Spivak provides information on multiple scholarships for every grade level that are upgraded daily and weekly. Students can access this information on Spivak’s page in the Staff and Faculty Directory on the Krop website.
”CAP club helps you learn about college specific opportunities and scholarships,” Spivak said. “It offers workshops to help students understand different activities related to college, or that could benefit them in their college application process such as dual enrollment.”
