In recent years, vlogs, or video blogs, took over YouTube. Since first starting his vlog, Casey Neistat’s following skyrocketed to over six million subscribers. Yet, even with his popularity influence, Neistat ended his vlog in November 2016.
While on vacation in 2015, Neistat started his vlog on his 32nd birthday. Since that day, Neistat uploaded daily vlogs showcasing his family, business and travels across the world. Over a year and a half later, he did not feel the same as when he started.
“I know how to do this and do it in a way that’s pretty easy, and have it make me very successful on YouTube and make a great living…but what it hasn’t been doing is challenging me,” Neistat said in a video posted on YouTube. “It hasn’t been the creative fistfight that I want and need every single day.”
But on Neistat’s 34th birthday–two years after first starting his vlog–he surprised the entertainment world by uploading a video titled “THE VLOG IS BACK.” Students like sophomore Mark Huzenman tuned in to watch the video soonafter its release.
“His creativity and film style changed the way people vlog,” said Huzenman. “The combination of drone footage and incredible editing makes for the signature Neistat style. I’m glad the vlog is back.”
