Ives Estate 5K attracts many

Over one hundred runners (and walkers) gathered at Ives Estates Park for the third annual Ives 5k as the Sun rose on Saturday, April 16.

The run began at 7:30 A.M. and featured a hill-laden, grassy trail – some of the only natural inclines you’ll find in Miami, if not Florida. Junior Malik Watson was the first to finish the run with a time of 19:06, averaging a 6:15 mile.

After the race, everyone gathered under the pavilion to receive their awards, congratulate each other and enjoy some free food and drinks, courtesy of Raw Juce, Muscle Milk and Dunkin Donuts. The awards were followed by a raffle worth waiting for – prizes included a basketball signed by all Heat players, an Invicta watch and endless running gear.

Hosted and organized by P.E. Teacher Caron Schiffman, the event has raised thousands of dollars for a different cause each year. This year, over three thousand dollars were raised and donated to the Broward Partnership for the Homeless. Make sure to join in on the fun next year!
