On Mar. 23, freshman Jonah Muchnick and junior Emilee Tennen participated in the 11th annual Purim Spiel at Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center.
“I’m so excited to be part of this musical,” Muchnick said. “These spiels are always so funny and I always have a good time. This year I’m playing the role of Haman and I can’t be any more excited.”The Purim Spiel is a way for the Jewish community to celebrate the holiday of Purim, when an evil man named Haman tried to kill the Jews, but the King marries a Jewish girl named Esther and she saves them all (it’s more complicated than that, but you get the idea). It’s a short play with the theme of Motown.

The ‘Motown Megillah’ is a musical parody of the story of Esther (when she saved the Jews). Song parodies include “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” by Motown.
“The ‘Motown Megillah‘ was hysterical,” Tennen said. “I can’t wait for next year!”
