The whirring of sewing machines fills room 3101 as students’ design sketches come to life. Fashion Club has drawn, sewn and is currently creating pieces for their upcoming fashion show.
The club was created last school year, when seniors, President Meadow Propsom and Vice-President Naomi Zrihen, collaborated on ideas to spread their love of fashion throughout the school.
“Our goal was not only to share our passion, but also to teach others interested about the dynamic world of fashion,” Zrihen said.
Fashion Club plans to host an annual fashion show, with this year’s fairy-themed event taking place in March. Every member of the club is able to create their own look and bring their ideas to life in relation to the mystical creatures.
To fit the theme, wings are an addition to their designed pieces. Club members are currently working towards this goal and hand-making wings using a technique with wires wrapped in colored cellophane or fabric.
“As the fashion show comes closer, they are beginning to style their pieces for their looks,” Zrihen said. “Many of these pieces are handmade or thrifted and altered.”
Currently, they have five machines and are planning a Valentine’s Day fundraiser in order to raise funds for materials.
“Everyone is so dedicated and hard working,” Zrihen said. “Witnessing their commitment I can truly see significant growth in both the club and students.”
Fashion Club meets every second and third Thursday from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
