Headaches are the most common form of pain and there are 150 different types. Knowing the type of headache you have can determine the steps to naturally relieve your pain without medication. Five common headache types are: tension headaches, migraines, sinus headaches hormone headaches, and cluster headaches
Tension headache:
Tension headaches, also known as stress headaches, are the most common type of headache and are caused by muscle contractions in the neck and head area. Natural treatments include: applying ice packs to the head, taking a hot shower, and improving your posture.
Migraine:
Migraines can cause a pulsing or throbbing pain usually on one side of the head. Oftenly, it is accompanied by vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, and nausea. A few natural treatments include acupuncture, relaxation techniques, spinal manipulation, and sleep.
Sinus headache:
Sinus headaches are usually caused by another condition like a sinus infection or congestion. When your sinuses get blocked and mucus gets trapped inside, infection can occur. The infection causes sinusitis (congestion and inflammation in the sinuses) which causes the sinus headache. In order to treat the headache, the infection must be gone first.
Hormone headache:
Women can get hormone headaches from changes in their hormone levels during pregnancy, their period, and menopause. Birth control pills can also cause these headaches. Remedies include: managing stress, a diet reducing the intake of gluten, sugar, and red wine, and staying hydrated (three liters a day).
Cluster headache:
Cluster Headaches are a series of short but painful headaches every day from weeks to months at a time and are almost always located on one side of the head. They can be more painful than migraines, but don’t last as long. Cluster headaches are seasonal, and a person usually gets it around the same time each year. Ways to naturally relieve pain include: breathing exercises, avoiding changes to sleep schedule and avoiding extreme change to altitude.
