Trump repeals act on bathrooms for transgender students
President, Donald J. Trump repealed an act implemented by previous administrations that allows transgender students to use the restroom corresponding with their identity.
Disregarding protests by other republican leaders and his own education secretary, Betsy DeVos, Trump’s act halted progress for the transgender community. Not only has this affected the LGBTQ community, but schools nationwide.
Trump’s act has sparked much debate and riots throughout Washington D.C., as hundreds of protesters gather outside the White House. This will create an unaccepting and unsafe environment for teenagers in school, and might spark higher suicide rates in transgender teens.
Influenced by conservatives, Trump might be lenient on this policy, and allow the state governments to choose their policy on public bathroom use by transgenders.
