On Mar. 3, Krop was paid a special surprise visit by viral artists iLoveMemphis, Kevin Cameron and TaylorGirlz. At a pep rally, Cameron opened the show with his song, “One and Only,” leading into TaylorGirlz’ performance of their song, “Woozie,” debuting a new dance move for the crowd. Finally, Memphis, whose real name is Richard Colbert, came out to perform his hit song “Hit The Quan.” The show ended with the crowd swarming the court, joining Memphis for “Lean and Dabb.”
The energy in the room was apparent, inviting both students and teachers to participate in the action. Social studies teacher Thomas Lander was seen dancing along with the music, engaging the crowd as they watched the performances.
The event was coordinated by social studies teacher Connie Higgins who, along with coaches Ray Thompson and Elizabeth Morgan, had wanted to provide an incentive for students during testing season. Higgins had been contacted last week by a former student who offered to have the artists perform. After passing it through the administration, Higgins was able to bring out the rappers for the event.
