Disney child stars: Where are they now?

From child stars to famous musicians, models, influencers, entrepreneurs and successful actors, Disney Channel has been a gateway to success for many. 

At the age of 13 Selena Gomez was cast as Alex Russo in “The Wizards of Waverly Place,” which she starred in for six years. Since then, she has amassed 37 singles and has been nominated for several Grammys, including “Album of the Year” and “Latin Pop Album.” Gomez also had her albums “Rare” and  “Revival” topping the Billboard 200. Recently, in 2023 Gomez won at the Billboard Music Awards “Song of the year” for “Calm Down” a song she collaborated with Rema. She has won many awards (67) in her career, but has dealt with medical concerns through the years. In 2013, she was diagnosed with lupus and received a kidney transplant in 2017. Gomez shares her story in her 2022 documentary “My Mind & Me.” She has also been involved in charity work, including a position as UNICEF ambassador. Additionally, she became the co-founder of “Rare Beauty,” an American makeup and cosmetics company that she launched in 2019. 

     Starring in “Barbie” in 2023, Ariana Greenblatt began her acting career at 7 years old. In 2016, she played the youngest child of a family in the Disney Channel show “Stuck In The Middle.” Her first film role took place in 2017, in “Bad Mom’s Christmas” and she played several other roles as a child star. She is now 16 and appeared on a “Teen Vogue” cover as a new Hollywood honoree. She has started playing bigger roles such as Minnow from “Love and Monsters” and stars in a new movie, “Borderlands,” where Greenblatt was cast as Tiny Tina. As for her role Sasha in “Barbie,” Greenblatt was awarded “Best Young Actress” by the 2024 Critics Choice Awards and “Outstanding performance” by 2024 Screen Actors Guild awards.

Zachary (Zac) Efron began acting around the 2000s, where he starred in several TV series as a guest role. At the age of 18 he landed a job with Disney Channel as “Troy Bolton,” the male lead in the “High School Musical” trilogy. He continued acting, and has won and been nominated for awards such as the 2019 nominee for Best Actor in Streaming Presentation at the Saturn Awards, and he won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Daytime Program host for the Netflix documentary series “Down to Earth with Zac Efron.” His most recent role is Kevin Von Erich, the main role in “The Iron Claw” film  which launched in 2023. Efron additionally has two new movies coming out in 2024 such as “Ricky Stanicky” and “A Family Affair.” He is now 36 years old and continues his career appearing on talk shows such as Jimmy Kimmel, The Tonight Show, etc.
